Student Recreation Complex
The expansion and renovation of historical Rothwell Gymnasium and Brewer Field House offers future Mizzou generations unparalleled recreation facilities and programs. The construction plan involved a series of three existing buildings connected in a U-shape. New construction infilled the “U” located to the south of the existing complex.
The heated outdoor pool greets students and members near the new facility’s southeast entrance. The new, state-of-the-art indoor aquatics center features a competitive 50-meter pool, ten-meter diving platform, and spring board diving along with seating for 1,000 spectators. The aquatic center also features a custom-designed leisure pool.
The new, nearly 20,000 SF fitness center provides cardio equipment, free weights, selectorized weight training machines, and a 40-foot glass-enclosed climbing tower. The expanded recreation center’s lobby features plenty of comfortable seating, conversation corners, computer access terminals, observation balconies, indoor gardens, and a full-service juice bar.
The interiors reflects MU’s mascot, the tiger, and carries a jungle theme throughout the complex. School pride is felt in every space.
This cutting-edge facility, of more than 220,000 SF, is the largest recreation center ever built in the history of Missouri higher education, and it is one of the top five largest recreation facilities in the nation.
