The Shoebox
The Shoebox was designed to be a welcoming gathering place for students to relax and unwind with friends after a long day of hitting the books or going to classes. The facility serves as a venue for bands, comedians, and karaoke. A large, 100-inch-screen television and many smaller screens throughout the seating area allow students to watch MTV, sports events, or other programs. A variety of food and drinks options cater to different palates, and an outdoor seating area provides a space for students to socialize in nice weather. The Shoebox was made possible by a gift of more than $500,000 from John Shoemaker ’64 and his wife, Donna. Shoemaker, executive vice president at Sun Microsystems in Palo Alto, CA, is a member of the College’s Board of Trustees and earned the Hanover Alumni Achievement Award in 2000.
